The Vermont Brewers Festival at Burlington Waterfront Park

The City of Burlington hosts the annual beer fest on the waterfront of Lake Champlain, just a half-mile walk from the center of the Church Street Marketplace.

Considered one of the premier beer festivals in the United States, and perhaps the World, the VT Brewers Festival plays host to 50+ brewers, a dozen or so local food trucks, live bands and music, and an absolutely gorgeous view of the Adirondack Mountains in the West.

The Vermont Brewers Guild, the nonprofit membership organization who runs the beer fest, has been doing so for 28 years now. The event was created to celebrate local artisan craft beer, long before the craft beer explosion in the United States. While it started as a way to promote Vermont beer and local Vermont Breweries, other New England breweries from other states have gotten in on the action. Allagash Brewing Company of Portland, ME, along with Jack's Abby and Springdale Beer Co. of Framingham, MA have been known to participate. Even Montreal's Dieu du Ciel! comes on down from Quebec to take part in the reindeer games.

When did the Vermont Brewers Festival start?

What started in 1995 as a mission in craft beer education and advocacy has blossomed into a weekend of tasting exploration and appreciation. Local VT favorites like The Alchemist have made appearances, along with smaller nanobreweries like Brocklebank Craft Brewing out of Tunbridge. The exposure (and marketing gains) of being placed next to a perennial favorite can work wonders for the business of smaller brewers in the Green Mountain state.

It has since expanded to a second event held at the base of Bear Mountain at the Killington Resort. Because skiing and beer go hand-in-hand. Such is the culture of craft brewing.
