Or, even more specifically, on July 19th of 2023, as that is National Daiquiri Day. We had no idea that the cocktail had it's own holiday.
While quite different than the Classic Daiquiri in form (and somewhat flavor), a Frozen Watermelon Daiquri, or Watermelon Slush as some call it, is one of the easiest drinks you can make. That's because most of the magic happens in the blender. You don't need to layer any liquor or use specific types of booze like those in a trademarked cocktail.
In fact, you could even freehand the pouring of the rum to taste like you would when adding salt or pepper to your favorite meal. And, it doesn't even really need to be Summer when drinking one. That said, it certainly is one of the best beach drinks going.

Equipment Needed to Make a Watermelon Daiquiri
- Blender (we prefer Vitamix)
- Straw (optional)
Ingredients in a Frozen Watermelon Daiquiri
- 1/2lb of Fresh Seedless Watermelon
- 2oz of Light Rum
- 1/2oz of Lime Juice
- Dash of Simple Syrup
Garnish: A lime wheel or watermelon wedge works. Or both if you're feeling it. We even occasionally throw some Gummy Bears on a toothpick.
Substitute Ingredients
- You can substitute the Simple Syrup for Agave, Honey or even a spoonful of Sugar (and thank Mary Poppins for that one).
- You can substitute the Light Rum for Gold Rum if that's all you have in the cupboard.
How to make a Watermelon Daiquiri

Step One: Get the Ingredients Ready
You will want to start by cutting up some fresh watermelon wedges or chunks. You will also need to gather up your lime and some light rum. We prefer using Bacardi, but you use any light rum for your own cocktails.

Step Two: Add Watermelon and Vodka to the Vitamix and Blend
These steps are truly straightforward. Take that bowl of watermelon and add it to your blender. Then add your Light Rum. We had a handle hanging around that needed to be used up, so that's what we chose to use here. You, on the other hand, don't need to use Bacardi.

Step Three: Pour it into a Glass and Garnish
You're almost ready to enjoy. Just make sure you give your drink a fun garnish. We chose Gummy Bears, because why not?
