Not exactly California, which has approximately 40x more microbreweries and brewpubs than Mississippi. But, the Magnolia State is improving, with more and more small batch brewing popping up.
Spearheaded - perhaps - by the Lazy Magnolia brewery, the Mississippi craft beer scene is small, but no less important to our great nation's love of beer. From Hattiesburg to Ocean Springs, Mississippians can sip tasty brews and enjoy delicious southern meals at the state's several brewpubs.
This is especially a tribute to Mississippi Craft Beer Brewerson the Gulf Coast, including Crooked Letter Brewing Company, Lazy Magnolia Brewery, and others. There's nothing quite like the Gulf Coast. This goes for the breweries of the Gulf Coast as well, as coastal Mississippi really is the best kept secret in the United States. The brewpubs and taprooms deserve not only credit for producing excellent food & drink, but also credit for making some great beer.
And this makes sense. The Gulf Coast needs great beer to match it's laid back attitude and unique way of life. And with several breweries near or just off the shore, it's not hard to get your growlers filled. Often.
