The Caesar cocktail, sometimes referred to as Bloody Caesar, is a staple beverage of the nation of Canada. If you’re thinking it’s a goofy version of the Bloody Mary, you’d be right.
Only up country degens would order something with clam off the menu and have it come in liquid format. Clam. In a drink recipe.
Anyway, we’re not here to judge. In some ways it’s no different than tomato juice, if you’re got a taste for Clamato.
It’s also the type of cocktail that you order for lunch. And after a long day of chorin’. Or if you’re working a produce stand. Maybe even at a Super Soft Birthday Party.
- Celery Salt
- Cocktail Shaker
- Highball Glass
Classic Caesar Recipe Ingredients
- 2oz Vodka
- 4oz Clamato Juice
- 2-3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2oz fresh lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- Add Celery Salt, Black Pepper, Garlic Salt, Horseradish, Montreal Steak Seasoning and Tabasco Sauce to taste. Say 1-2 pinches per.
Garnish: Celery stick
Garnish: Pickled Green Beans
Building a Spicy Caesar Mix
Gotta ratchet up the number on the Scoville Scale to set your Caesar drink on fire. While a Ghost Pepper isn’t for us, it’s not unheard of.
On the flipside, there’s no need to put the flame in Calgary here. If you just want a little extra heat, double the amount of Horseradish and hot sauce you put into the mix.
And if you’re doubling things, you might as well make a double batch with 4 ounces vodka and 8 ounces clam juice. Just saying.
Good Vodkas to use for making the Classic Cocktail
We opt for Tito’s because the price of a handle is excellent for the quality.

How to make the Caesar Rim
You'll hear a variety of folks give a variety of instructions. A Caesar rim should only be celery salt. Or, put a mix of black pepper and salt. Use Montreal Steak Seasoning for the rim.
One thing that we think works well is trusting Walter's Craft Caesar Rim. In French, that would be Artisanal Garniture Cesar!
Walter's Caesar Rim is made with cracked black petter, flake salt, organic cane sugar, and select herbs & spices. In other words, it's a pretty good option.
- You can substitute celery salt for regular table salt (if you’re a “salt person” or you’re using tequila)
- You can substitute a lime wedge garnish for a lemon wedge
- You can substitute vodka for gin or tequila (it won’t be traditional though)
- You can substitute a highball glass for a Collins glass or even a pint glass. Especially if it’s that kind of morning.
- You can substitute Tabasco sauce for your favorite hot sauce.
